The Ambition Shared
Working in the wind energy sector is profoundly demanding: what we do helps build a cleaner energy model, but it also forces us to look inward. At Haizea Wind, safety, health, and the sustainability of our operations are unquestionable priorities, and the organization speaks of a shared ambition: zero injuries, zero environmental impact, and zero losses. It’s no coincidence that we explicitly link safe production with environmentally responsible production, nor that we place sustainability among our core values, both in the final product and in our manufacturing processes, with the aim of minimizing our footprint.
Certifications
What’s truly valuable is that this commitment goes beyond mere words. All of the group’s plants hold ISO 14001 environmental management certification, and we have continued to strengthen this approach with advancements in energy management and sustainability assessment: in 2023, Haizea Tecnoaranda obtained ISO 50001 certification and the EcoVadis gold medal, while Haizea Grupo WEC and Haizea Bilbao received the silver medal. Behind these accolades lie more than just certifications: there’s a way of understanding the industry where improving processes, measuring impacts, and reviewing practices are also integral to doing things right.
Decisions
Perhaps that’s the most important part of this story: understanding that the environment isn’t a separate issue, an external layer, or just another section in a report. It’s a way of being at work. It’s in how a machine is switched on, how waste is managed, how a resource is used, how improvements are conceived. Because caring for the environment is also a way of caring for people. And because, when Haizea helps build the infrastructure for the energy transition, it’s also called upon to demonstrate that this transition begins much earlier: it begins within, in every decision our teams make.
Caring for the environment is caring for people
This approach translates into concrete decisions. The 2023 Non-Financial Information Statement includes, for example, our investment in a solar panel installation of up to 2 MW for self-consumption at Haizea Tecnoaranda, the launch of the Haizea Bilbao recycling center to substantially improve waste management, and the strengthening of the sustainable mobility project, which in Bilbao was used by an average of 75 people per day. We are working on measuring emissions, including our Scope 3 footprint, and have set corporate targets for the gradual reduction of waste, energy consumption, and CO2 equivalent emissions per ton of finished product; furthermore, the report indicates that all electricity consumption comes from 100% renewable energy.
